Apple TV : the hell with component output

I was able to buy an Apple TV (1st generation) from the Apple refurb shop for CHF 117.- (about 100$). I have a working, 42″, 6 years old TV with SCART inputs. No HDMI input, no High-Definition model (the content isn’t here anyway). Now when I try to connect them, I find out the Apple TV has component output, and SCART means composite inputs.

The Americans are known for their wide misunderstanding of the world out there, so one could think “component” signals must be common in USA, this is why Apple uses them. But no, even in USA, nobody has component inputs on their TV sets. So why the hell did Apple provide them on their product ?

A composite or S-VHS output would have made me happier, and my Apple TV wouldn’t stay unused in its box. What am I supposed to do now ? Buy a new TV set ?

Edit 9.3.2008 : it seem to be possible to switch the output to composite color : http://wiki.awkwardtv.org/wiki/Composite

Edit 23.3.2008 : got it working !
