APC UPS doubtful quality checks

My 5-years old UPS being dead, with no replacement battery available, I ended up buying a new UPS. I selected the APC brand, as the Linux support is available by their own software, plus the venerable apcupsd.
The device arrived today, it’s the small SC420I. It has that nice “QUALITY ASSURANCE TEST” report :

I opened the UPS to connect the battery as instructed, and hear a metallic noise, from a moving part inside. I was able to grab it from the battery slot, and it looks like it could have produced some nice sparkles, if I would have left it inside : I big piece of aluminium profile, roughly cut. Go figure.

The interesting part is the report assuming everything is OK. Maybe APC should add a “SILENT WHEN STRONGLY SHAKEN” test. Mine wouldn’t have passed it, fore sure.

The UPS seems to works fine anyway, soI should be lucky in some way.

Edit : I submitted this page to the support channel, and so far, the reaction has been “Quel est le problème rencontré ?“. I think I must be dreaming…

Edit 2 : APC Support replaced my defective UPS, read about it here.
