Siemens Gigaset C475IP unstable

I have this phone since about 10 months. It’s a cool device, supporting a POTS phone line, and SIP VOIP calls. The configuration is web-based, and a part of the software is OpenSource, running some GNU packages.

Sadly, this phone has been unstable. The POTS side always work, but once a week, the SIP VOIP part simply stop working. I have monitored it using Zenoss, and here are the last month stats :

It hangs every 6 to 8 days. No answer to ping, port 80 down. Gone.

I have tried to upgrade to the latest firmware, then I disabled all IP settings, but it still hang after 1 week. The cure is a power-cycle.

I then tried to contact the Siemens support, a Siemens developer, the official gigaset blog, but nobody answered my requests. And given what I can read in other forums, I’m apparently not the only one with this issue.

I then tried to get the source code to try to build it with syslog and help with the debugging, but apparently, the interesting part is not OpenSource, so this is not the way to go.

Therefore, and until Siemens does its job, I can only recommend to stay away from their SIP VOIP products. You have been warned.

Update : I upgraded the firmware again to “021400000000 / 043.00″, let’s see how long it will work.

Update (28.1.2009) : still crashing. And Siemens still doesn’t care.
